Term: Mid-September – December 31, 2024 (with possibility of renewal in 2025)
The Cascade Institute (CI) is hiring a part-time Research Associate (RA) for its Energy Systems team to support the work of its Ultradeep Geothermal and Scale-up and Acceleration programs.
The role starts mid-September and will run until the end of December, with the possibility of renewal in 2025. The RA is expected to work 5-15 hours per week but precise working hours will be determined collectively based on the capacity of the RA and the needs of the Institute. The hourly rate for the position is $30/hour (+5% in lieu of vacation).
The core role of the RA is to support CI researchers (Fellows, Program Leads, Research Director) in the development of CI research/analysis outputs. The RA may also have opportunities to co-author CI outputs and support the execution of the Institute’s communications strategy and knowledge mobilization activities.
Responsibilities will vary from project to project but may include:
- Perform research/analysis tasks defined by CI researchers
- Succinct communication of research findings/analysis through memos and briefs
- Support the planning and execution of events and other knowledge mobilization activities
- Communicate regularly with teammates and supervisors
- Independently track and triage tasks assigned by CI researchers
- Submit biweekly timesheets to the Research Director
Mandatory qualifications:
- Current doctoral or masters student (or recent graduate)
- Expertise in energy systems, particularly from a policy or social science perspective
- (e.g., geophysics, geology, environmental science, environmental studies, environmental politics, environmental communication, public policy, engineering, innovation policy, etc.)
- Eligible to work in Canada (student work permit, permanent residency, citizenship)
- Experience with building databases and database management
- Clear and precise writing skills
