Gordon Brasnett is a fellow for the Ultradeep Geothermal program. His role involves techno-economic modelling, policy analysis, and risk-assessment frameworks for novel geothermal technologies. He holds an MSc in Sustainable Energy Development from the University of Calgary and BSc degrees in Physics and Geophysics from the University of Alberta. He is a professional geoscientist in Alberta, British Colombia, and Saskatchewan.

His MSc research at the University of Calgary involved developing an interactive map set modelling the economic potential of geothermal energy in Alberta. Following the completion of his MSc in 2022, Gordon worked in the private sector, advising clients on the risks and barriers as well as the strategic and economic potential for emissions reduction technologies in the North American market. Prior to that, Gordon spent over 10 years supporting the environmental and geotechnical engineering industries as a near-surface geophysicist. In this role, he would regularly collect, process, interpret, and develop visualizations for seismic, electromagnetic, resistivity, and ground penetrating radar data.
