Geothermal energy presents a transformative opportunity for climate resilience and economic self-determination, but realizing this potential requires a strong foundation of Indigenous data sovereignty. Geothermal Exploration, Data Sovereignty, and Indigenous Power explores how Indigenous Nations are navigating the intersection of clean energy exploration and subsurface data governance. By using frameworks like the OCAP® (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession) principles, communities can ensure that the technical datasets driving renewable energy development serve to strengthen, rather than undermine, their decision-making authority. Ultimately, the report demonstrates how robust data governance empowers Indigenous Peoples to lead the renewable energy transformation while advancing their sovereignty.
