Peter Massie (he/him) is the Director of the Geothermal Energy Office at the Cascade Institute (Royal Roads University, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada).  In this role, Peter leads initiatives to advance geothermal energy as a critical component of Canada’s net-zero energy future. In particular, Peter is focused on advancing geothermal power as a source of abundant baseload electricity that can leverage Canada’s existing energy strengths.

Peter previously served in a variety of roles in the Government of Canada.  Most recently, Peter was the Manager and Acting Director of Strategic Policy and Techno-Economic Analysis in Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy R&D.  In this role, he leveraged advanced modeling tools to assess the contributions of emerging energy technologies to Canada’s decarbonization goals. Peter also held roles as the Senior Advisor to the Director General of the Electricity Resources Branch, and as a Policy Analysis with the Oil Markets Division.

Peter earned his Master of Arts in Sustainable Energy Policy from Carleton University, where he focused on the interactions between policies and technologies. Peter received an Undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, where he was a member of the wrestling team.

Outside of his professional role, Peter enjoys trivia, cromulent Simpsons references, and staying active in all seasons.  He lives in Ottawa, Ontario, with his wife Rebekka and dog Nellie.
