The Cascade Institute's Geothermal Energy Office in Ottawa (CI-GEO) is a hub for actionable development of ultradeep geothermal in Canada and around the world.
The office is developing and coordinating an ultradeep geothermal “innovation ecosystem”—centred around a network of experimental drilling sites—in Canada.
CI-GEO staff works closely with Cascade Institute researchers to guide analysis on ultradeep geothermal and amplify findings and recommendations, while supporting active projects with regulatory and IP guidance.
Led by CI-GEO Director Peter Massie, alongside Cascade Institute Geothermal Policy Lead Emily Smejkal, the office accelerates ultradeep geothermal innovation through coalition building; develops and executes strategies for attracting and de-risking investment; and supports the development of regulatory infrastructure to advance ultradeep geothermal.
